Dean G. Dunlavey

Dean Dunlavey has been a trial lawyer for more than 30 years. As an Assistant United States Attorney in the Central District of California (Los Angeles), he successfully prosecuted dozens of cases. Mr. Dunlavey then spent more than two decades as a partner at Latham & Watkins in Orange County, where he served as the Local Department Chair of the Litigation & Trial Department. Until his retirement in 2017, his practice focused on patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition, and other complex business and intellectual property matters.

Mr. Dunlavey tried and won numerous cases in federal district courts and before the International Trade Commission. He holds a J.D. from Boalt Hall (University of California, Berkeley), an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, and an AB in chemistry and physics from Harvard University.

Mr. Dunlavey received numerous awards for his courtroom victories, including being named by the Daily Journal as one of the "Top IP Litigators in California" in 2009 and 2011 and separately for obtaining a "Top Verdict in California" in 2016. He was repeatedly recognized as a "Super Lawyer" in intellectual property litigation.
